Leaking Boiler

Hi all
I have a 4yr old Weil/Mclain boiler WTGO series installed in the basement filled with glycol and appears to be leaking around the 1-1/2 in fitting on the bottom rear side of boiler.
I have tried in the past to tighten this plug with out much success, as space is very limited.

What I would like to know is there a compound unlike what one would put in a car radiator to stop small thread type leaks without compromising the zone control valve operation?

Do yourself a favor

Dave just do yourself a favor and have the fitting repaired properly. A bandaid is just that...

leak repair

Leaks can be a nuisance fix.

Unfortunately, the best way is to start over. Drain the system, recover the gycol, disassemble the fitting, clean or replace fittings, use pipe dope over teflon tape (or whatever your preferance is), tighten until you just cant get one more turn, refill, purge, done.

Dave I beg you for your own sake not to use any type of leak stop. It almost NEVER a good idea to do this. I don't think anyone here will endorse this. Take an hour or two to do the repair properly. Your boiler will love you for it!

boiler leaks

Thanks guys for the fast response to my question

I really thought and knew all along that the best way to do it properly would be to drain and save the glycol and dismantel the whole boiler so that I could work on it properly.
