    Header size

The supply and return headers should be mirror images of each other. This helps with delta T, flow rate, less head and MOST IMPORTANT - Dan says so! ("Pumping Away" page 95).
The use of the reducer/diffuser bushing on the G115 adds less than .012 feet of head because of the very short distance of the fitting.

Installation of a boiler, near boiler piping, wiring is as individual as each person. There are some contractors who go to great lengths to "create a work of art" when installing a boiler. Most home owners do not care what it looks like as long as it works. Many of the contractors who post here do the installation and the service, so they keep that in mind.

Will this system operate - yes. Is it as service friendly as we would all like to see at 2am on a no heat call - maybe not. I suggest having it inspected to be sure local code is followed, change the DHW line to one inch by cutting in before the header, as suggested earlier, or add on to the end of the header, Keep return same size as supply up till the boiler.
    Thanks,

    sorry roosterboy

That was very mean and I shouldn't have posted it. I don't hate you I was trying to make a point that cheaper is not always better. I should just mind my own business. Sorry again.

    What Dan is talking about

What Dan is talking about there is if you reduce the size of the supply manifold to reflect the decreasing load the manifold will carry as the water gets further down the manifold you will make the return the mirror image of the supply because the sizes the supply manifold was made of were determined by the load at that point. If 1" is all that's required then running a pipe larger on the supply or the retrun really doesn't make any difference.

    so when...

piping the 115 do you (Buderus) recommend increasing to 1 1/4" as soon as you get out of the return? kpc

yea so what I have to do is take that reducer I have on my return manifold and stick it directly on the back of the boilers return

    then pipe 1/1/4 from there

good thing you guys told me this

    thanks

I think that what Joe (and Dan) were refering to is reverse return. That will equalize the pressure drop in constant diameter manifolds.

With a properly designed manifold pair that reduces toward the end (or oversized manifold headers), you dont need to make them mirror images (reverse return).

    Hi Roosterboy,

You could do that or even better might be to replace the first 90 by the boiler return and replace it with a Tee and run the new branch as directly as possable to the indirect return.

Since you have a horizontal indirect, flow rate is important not only for recovery but also to purge air out of the heat exchanger loops in the indirect tank. (Been there, Done that, Got the T-shirt)

I would really try to get the Spirovent in main supply and Tee off after it, one leg to the manifold and the other leg to the indirect circ.

I use on this drawing just a basic Visio. You can create drawing that you save as stencils (pumps, styles of boiler, ect..). I have a library of around 2,000 boiler, electrical, mechanical fittings, ect... I then created Templates of applications and then as the design of the job dictates change the template to fit the job. You can create very detailed drawings. For commercial jobs I use a 3-D auto cad based program to draw to scale. There both great tools to use in the field and also to sell the job to the home owner. Here is another example of the new Buderus intall with the GB-142.

    Very Nice

I can see I've got to look into Visio more. Where did you get the library of "pieces"?

I just did some searching. I found the program and I also found sites where you can download different symbol etc..

But Brett, do you mean to say that you make the Buderus or boiler images?

    Viso Images

I have Viso at work and have done many drawings for Buderus. E-mail me at jkennard@buderus.net and I can send drawings (got a great "new" image of the GB142 from our rep Steve Grady) that have great images of Buderus products.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Joe and Ted

Joe I have made all detailed drawing on the new GB and all Buderus products if you need anymore stencils. I am the rep out in Washington State. Ted email me your address and I would be more than happy to burn a CD of my library and send it your way. No use redrawing these images if the work has already been done. brett@mechagents.com
