possibly overfired??

i would agree with al but you may be able to a 85 maybe a 75 and may have to make a air adjustment so it will run clean.hope this will help

    oversized/overfired boiler

    I have an old Weil-Mclain model 366 oil fired steam boiler. It puts out 109,000BTU/hr gross-340sq.ft. steam net(81,000). But when I count up the 5 radiators in this small ranch/bungalow they put out only 140sq.ft.! Does this mean that I am almost 60% overfired? Do I have to reduce the GPH of the nozzle? By how much can I reduce it and still make steam without playing with 5 or 6 different nozzles in and out?

    You didn't mention if the boiler is making hot water as well. The 366 is as small as they get for a steam boiler of that vintage. I would be careful about downsizing the nozzle much if at all. Unless the boiler is short-cylcing, it will be most efficient at or near it's desigh firing rate. Remember, there is a difference between combustion efficiency and thermal efficiency. If it's firing 1 GPM and not making hot water too, you may get away with a .85 but I wouldn't go any lower than that.
