Water hammer issue
Hello Im having a water hammer hammer issue at mid cycle of the boiler. I know its full of mud and is also a one pipe counter flow with a dry return. I believe part of this issue could be they haven't gotten a deep cleaning or flushing i had observed the boiler over firing and was wondering if needing a deep cleaning only could be the cause, aside of changing out the main air vents or also the air vents behind the boiler and above the Hartford loop( which serves a wall radiator behind the wall) could also pose another issue? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

I'm not a heating pro, but I'm going to guess that the first thing a steam expert will tell you is that the nipple on your Hartford is too long. That's supposed to be a close nipple in order to shorten the "runway" for water hammer. (see item #6 in the article below written by Heating Help founder Dan Holohan)

Does your water level drop in the gauge glass dramatically while the boiler is firing?
Your header seems to be non-existent and what's that other pipe coming out of the top of the boiler near the front? You can run without a header but your water must be clean and oil free. Is this a recent install? It may never have been skimmed.
If your water level dives during a call for heat that's because the boiler is puking water up into your mains causing the hammer. But there could be other causes.
Your pressure relief valve is incorrectly oriented, this was installed by clowns I'm sorry to say.

i don't know what this is, but it isn't right:
your header should slope toward the equalizer sand should be connected to the equalizer instead of being capped:
either or both of those could be collecting water and causing hammer.
if there is a radiator partially be low the water line that could cause hammer too.
you could have any number of issues out in the system itself.
