New kid learned something I didnt know

We tore down a 600hp boiler for its annual inspection teaching the new kid what we knew as we went along. We have a great boiler inspector who is generous with his knowledge. I was busy and stuck the kid with the inspector and told the kid to learn something -and he did. After the inspection, he came to help me on what I was busy with. I asked, did you learn anything? He said yes. Checking the boiler stays, which are hard to see, is just as important as checking everything else and what you have been calling a fire chamber is actually called a Morrison tube. I didnt know that. I have called that 15 ft knee buster everthing under the sun for 17 years. Now I know its name! G..D… Morrison.

    I could be wrong. I always thought a Morrison Tube was a corrugated tube used on a high-pressure steam boiler.

    I do know about checking the stays we found that out the hard way.

    My co-worker and I were cutting up 3 steel fire box boilers with torches cutting into roughly 2' square pieces for removal. He was up on a 6' ladder cutting a 2' square thinking the stay would hold it in place but that stay had rotted off and he went over backwards off the ladder with the steel on top of him. Luckley, he did not get hurt.

    A Morrison tube IS corrugated. A knee buster when you crawl in.
