My boiler experience lies in the mid size boiler plants for schools and universities. That being said, most just simply shut the boiler off on April 15 and restart it on October 15. I wanted to share this and hope it shows other options

  • Cool, I found two of these metal plates from the American Radiator Company with instructions to do a wet layup. I've never heard of a dry one, that must be more industrial?

@SteamNow That's cool thanks Yes the dry layup is used for industrial boilers.

Sounds like a good reason for a standing pilot.

  • In my experience for hot water boilers definitely not. That nice black water is what the boiler likes. For steam boilers, the thought never occurred to me. Why would I want to introduce “fresh” water with all the air and hard water minerals and then add boiler water treatment ?
But I’m old so maybe some new ideas have come along.
