Buderus 3-pass oil boilers being phased out?
With much patient help from the pros here, I was planning eventually to switch our condo building from the present WGO-5 oil boilers to Buderus 115 3-pass oil boiler(s). I keep waiting for a WGO-5 to start leaking so we can replace it, but they keep not leaking. 😅
Meanwhile I occasionally check pricing on the Buderus 115 series just in case…but now Supply House is showing those as discontinued, and Google AI says that some configurations of the Buderus 115 have been discontinued, and various postings from heating pros elsewhere suggest that Buderus is in fact planning to phase out their entire line of 3-pass oil boilers.
This seems rather short-sighted to me as there is still a massive oil boiler customer base here in the Northeast….???

CI boiler will be around for a while I guess but if you look at what is going on it seems obvious that CI boilers are slowly drying up.
Heat Pumps, Geo thermal, Mod Cons are cutting into the market
H.B Smith is basically gone I think they only have 2 boilers left and those are made by Peerless. Peerless is selling the Burnham Steam Max if I am not mistaken and the #63 Peerless is going or rumored to be going away. Slant Finn is gone
So who is left?

Utica/Dunkirk
Most of those only have 1 or maybe 2 oil fired steam or HW boilers
Most don't want oil tanks either so propane make inroads.
New England was 80% heated by oil when I got in the business. Have no idea where that stands now.
Some cities like Cambridge don't want or have outlawed fossil fuels

Google AI says the best remaining 3-pass oil boilers are Burnham MPO-IQ, Utica Tri-Fire, and Weil Mclain Ultra Oil. Don't know how accurate that is. I had researched the first two a while back, but hadn't heard of the WM Ultra Oil. There's also the Pure Pro Trio.
Maybe too much competition for a declining market segment.

I had been a loyal fan of the Buderus oil fired units for years. Then when a customer had a leak issue, I found out they only had a ten year warranty. I would not sell what I would not buy. FW Webb sells the Trio boiler which is competitivity priced. Another Boiler which is a good option is the revised Pennsotti, which when priced out was (with burner) was about two thirds the price of the Buderus boiler less burner. The Trio has a lifetime warranty on the block, which is transferable the first 20 years. Pennsotti limited lifetime warranty.

My understanding is WEBB has two different CI Boiler lines, the 'import' and the 'domestic'. We have installed a dozen or so "domestic" cast iron boilers.
