Honestly if you're asking these questions you might want to consider calling someone.
Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

it is a 1/2” black steel nipple, maybe 3-4” long
A wider pic may show a shutoff and union above for disassembly
