Question about New Indirect Hot Water heater setup...

hello,

Q1) My indirect hot water heater is getting replaced, and i would like to get some advice if there are any issues with the new proposed setup.

Q2) I also have a question where can i add a cold water valve into the Indirect Water heater — from what i googled, you have to put it BEFORE the mixing valve (I dont understand why) and so i want to know, does it make ANY difference if i put a ball valve at the ORANGE or GREEN questionmark? I Just dont see any difference to it.

Incase you wonder, i dont have enough space to have the XTank on the right side of the COLD water pipe.. as there are alot of pipes behind it. Thats why i am proposing on the left side.

Thank you!!

try this diagram instead. Compare prices, and go on a vacation with the difference

If the valve is at the green arrow, you can't service the mixing valve without shutting off the main.

I know the drawing isn't to scale, but the extrol will be supported, right?

Orange location is best. Shuts off water to BOTH the mix valve and the DHW tank.

yes. There will be wire cable to hook onto the beam above to support that weight.

If you have hard water, the mix valve will require deliming occasionally, maybe yearly. So a valve on all 3 sides is helplful for removing and soaking the valve.

So on the orange and on the red outlet line would be ideal.

The boiler cold fill has a pressure reducing valve and backflow I assume?

There is not supposed to be a shutoff valve between the hot water tank and the expansion tank. The valve should go before the Expansion tank Is Teed off (towards city supply of that Tee). Neither organge nor green location are up to code. And the ball valve at the expansion tank, that's not supposed to be there either on DHW systems.

I agree with shutoff valves around the mixValve to facilitate servicing.

here is an option with few valves to isolate the dhw tank and mix valve, leaving expansion tanks below main shutoffs

Expansion tank service valves are becoming common. Remove handle if that helps

    eliminate I unintentional shutoff

where are you putting the relief valve in this setup? that is the valve that can't have a valve between it and the vessel being heated.

the 30 psi relief for the boiler is typically a 3/4 connection into the boiler block. Some expansion tank mounting arms have a tap for the relief valve

The side port on that Webstone is often where a relief valve installs, on tankless water heater valves for example
