motorized damper bypass

The motorized damper stuck closed preventing the boiler from running, so I disconnected the wires and tied the damper flap in the open position permanently. Am I losing a significant amount of efficiency to be concerned about it.
I'm Just a do it yourself home owner - not a heating specialist.

Not really losing enough to worry about. Most of those motorized dampers have a switch, though, to lock them permanently open. I'd worry about tying it open… sounds a bit improvised.

However, when the damper is closed, it greatly reduces air infiltration into the house since it stops air from drafting up the chimney.
If that's a Field or more-recent Effikal damper, replacement motor drive units are available.
