motorized damper bypass

Options

The motorized damper stuck closed preventing the boiler from running, so I disconnected the wires and tied the damper flap in the open position permanently. Am I losing a significant amount of efficiency to be concerned about it.

Not really losing enough to worry about. Most of those motorized dampers have a switch, though, to lock them permanently open. I'd worry about tying it open… sounds a bit improvised.

However, when the damper is closed, it greatly reduces air infiltration into the house since it stops air from drafting up the chimney.

If that's a Field or more-recent Effikal damper, replacement motor drive units are available.
