New old furnace

I recently bought a new Goodman furnace and installed it a few weeks ago.it ran with no problems but then received a no heat call on it .found that the low fire pressure switch was bad and replaced it.when I checked the warranty information I found the furnace was four and a half years old.it was new in the box but had been sitting around for four and a half years.the plumbing supplier told me don’t worry about the age and the warranty is still good from the time I bought it.i would like to read what other members think of buying a furnace that’s been sitting around that long ?is there a deadline (3 years,7years?) supplier should of told me it’s age .is it my responsibility to check its age ?I certainly will in the future.

I would get something from the supplier in writing that they will cover the warrenty from your date of purchase. In the future they will ask for model and serial and look at the MFG date so you want to be covered.

4 1/2 years is a long time for them to have one sitting around.

that is a good way in to the life of the grease and the oil in it and somewhat the plastic and rubber parts although they don't tend to deteriorate just sitting in the box, at least not for decades. also 4 years closer to no longer being able to get proprietary parts for it.

As long as you have the receipt showing the date of sale the manufacture will honor the warranty.

My commercial equipment states 1 year from date of sale 18 months from date of manufacture.

I’m not concerned so much about the warranty being honored as I am the boiler being four and a half years old when I bought it new.pressure switch needed replacement already.its debatable if electrical parts age sitting in a box.my customer wouldn’t be happy if he knew its age .there’s a reason why car dealers dump last years model at a discount and it’s not only to make space.at least car dealers tell you its last years model and give a discount

@Frank58 I wouldn't be too concerned. I don't think any parts should fail from sitting. I would be more concerned about the warranty and the fact that the plumbing supply tried to pull one over on you.

If they said we got a 4-year-old furnace leftover will give you a deal that would be different

Not to pile on here, but if you think about it, if that had been sitting for four and a half years, it was probably built/shipped prior to most of the COVID price increases. If a car dealer had a new 2020 or 2021 model on the lot, I sure as heck wouldn't expect to have to pay the new 2025/26 price for it. I would, however, expect the regular warranty based on delivery date.

I'd say that the supplier might owe you a credit. They should want to make it right, rather than being known for pulling a fast one.
