furnace not blowing heat

I turned on the furnace this month (December). The pilot lights, I hear clicking sounds in the furnace (something is going on in there), but the furnace doesn't begin blowing heat. Any thoughts about what might be going on? Thanks!..

if it’s clicking that’s a sign the coolers not lit or it doesn’t sense it

does the pilot light from the spark? does the main burner light?

Hello pecmsg - it IS clicking…I'm not clear on what the 'coolers' are. Could it be the sensor needs to be cleaned? I saw a youtube video yesterday where I guy very simple cleaned the sensor (a little rod, looked like ceramic)…he cleaned it with a sponge that had that pot scrubber stuff on it…

Hello mattmia2 - Thanks for this as well…I would imagine that the pilot light lights up from the thermostat…I'll have to take a look. I turn the thermostat to 72 degrees, then turn it on, I can hear the furnace (upstairs) make a noise and then when I come up to look at it, I can see blue flames across the bottom of the furnace and clicking noises…but it doesn't begin to blow warm air…

    THANKS, both of you!.. Michael…

oh, so the burner fires but the blower doesn't turn on.

do you hear a humming from the blower compartment?

Is the clicking the Igniter? If all the burners ignite but the spark keeps clicking, then the burners shut off after a few seconds, then its likely a dirty flame sensor.

You mention a pilot light. Is there an actual pilot light, or is it direct ignition? If there's an actual pilot light, the main burners shouldn't light without the flame sensor sensing pilot.

That being said, after a set number of trial for ignition attempts, most modern furnaces automatically power the blower motor.

Could it be, the pilot valve is working, but main valve is not opening so the burner tubes don't lite? Sound like an intermittent pilot unit. Means that there is a ignition control module. Remove the wires one at a time and reconnect them. On the main circuit board do the same.

The blower will not turn on until the heat exchanger reaches a certain temp which means that the burner tubes must light. This prevent the furnace from blowing cold air while it heats up.

most modern furnaces run the blower on a timer rather than a thermostat.
