indicator lights on SR504-EXP

new homeowner here. Totally unfamiliar with heating, boiler systems, etc. Please see attached photo

During a service call, I was told that "red" is good - meaning that the system is calling for heat and those pipes labeled as 2 and 3 should be hot, which they are.

If red is "ON" then why is the Power light green?

Also, Zone 1 - the basement floor - is warm to the touch, yet that indicator light is off. Same thing for Zone 4 - which is for the radiators which are hot to the touch.

Do I just have to get used to counterintuitive indicator lights?

    Green is the power light. I know this because it says POWER right next to it. Think of the Red lights as heat🔥. When a zone is energized, that zone should be Red Hot🔥.

    Zones 1 and 4 are likely suffering from gravity, or ghost flow. Even though the circulators aren't 🔥, the less dense heated water is rising out of the boiler because nothing is stopping it. Can you post some pics showing the whole boiler and piping floor to ceiling? If the circulators have internal check valves, 1 and 4 could be stuck open. If flo valves, external on the supply side, same. The circulators might say IFC or have a ✔️ symbol on the motor end.

    The power light was made green to easily distinguish it from the zone lights. The panel is not really something that you should concern yourself with unless there’s a problem.

    As mentioned, water flow is going through the zones that aren’t calling because of a hydronic issue, not because of a problem with the control.

    It is possible the zones that are warm that have indicator lights that are off have recently been satisfied their thermostat demand.

    The type of thermostats you have can effect the indicator lights also. If you have power stealing stats that can cause weird indicator light conditions.

    Green for go= the control has 120V power to it and is ready to work.
