Dunham trap with glass plus

Options

here is a picture of two traps at a house. The top one has a very small steam (vent I assume) on top of it. I found the patent here on the Dunham but didn’t see the gauge glass in that design. Any easy way to test them?

@DanHolohan book "lost art of steam heat" describes their operation. The one with the sight glass is an alternating receiver. It uses steam pressure to push condensate into the boiler.

the upper one i believe is an air vent. neither are steam traps as you would understand them it means this system is a vapor system and needs to be treated accordingly, not like an ordinary 2 pipe steam system.
