Oil Heater Shutting Down
We have an old 30 year old Smith Cast iron 8 series boiler that is running dirty and shutting down. HVAC guy cleaned the box, replaced the injector, the cateye, readjusted the igniter, changed fuel filter (twice), and new tank with new copper lines, the old buried tank had failed. Cleaned out a very dirty chimney. What could be cause this, fuel pump, fan maybe? Thanks

If it's running dirty — smoky — it has not been properly adjusted. Takes the correct test equipment to do that…

@DWL , where are you located? We might know someone who can help. Also, who made the burner on that boiler? Might be Beckett, Carlin, Riello……………

Saint Maries, Idaho. We have had trouble getting qualified tech to help. We have a great HVAC guy, but he is not an expert on boilers. Closest big town is Coeur d'Alene.

Series 8 is a solid boiler. You just need the right guy

A combustion analyzer, smoke tester, draft gauge, and pump pressure gauge are the minimum required tools for setting up an oil burner.
