Steam boiler

Customer complaint is when they run the steam boiler they are getting a musty smell through the building. we drained the boiler and skimmed it but the they can still smell it. Is it worth trying a cleaner like squick? Single pipe system. No steam traps. And I did not see where a steam line and drain line accidently got connected.

I don't recommend a boiler cleaner. Usually all they manage is to make the boiler surge, which will only add to your woes.

More to the point, unless there is something really and truly strange in the local water, the smell isn't coming from the steam or the water. There are many possible sources for a smell, but the bottom line is that it is likely to be something which is getting warmed up by the radiators or the piping. And the "something" is often mold in the walls or floors…

Steam line and drain line accidentally connected? We need a bit more explanation on that.

And of course some history would help. Maybe. Is this a new problem or an old problem? Have you verified that this problem actually exists? It is a single family home, or a building with tenants renting......?

Steam doctor We were checking to see if a handyman thought the steam main was a sewer drain and accidently connected to it which know one did. As far as history this is our first trip out. We have never been to this customer before. It is an old 2 story house converted into commercial property.

Do you know when it was converted to commercial? and how long have the present tenants been there? and have they always smell the must odor?
