Radiator Valve Question
hey all,
I replaced the run for my radiator from a 3/4” line to a 1 1/4 line (2nd floor bedroom furthest from boiler). I have a 1 1/4 straight valve on the pipe, which has a 1 1/2” male thread for the radiator connection (green). My radiator is built in, unable to move without destruction, and the radiator itself has a female 1 1/4 thread (red). Assuming I cannot remove the radiator, would a new valve work? And which one?
Thank you!

Oh dear. Well, that "female thread" on the spud in the radiator is on the union nut, and what your are looking at is half of a union. The other half of the union was on the old radiator valve, and the seal was between the mating conical faces of the union,.
What became of the old valve?
There is zero chance that the union half on the radiator spud will mate with the union half on the new valve
Nor is there any form of adapter that I know of.
So…. you choices are to find the fold valve with the other half of the union on the radiator and reinstall it, or remove the spud from the radiator and find the other half of the union on you new valve and figure out how to connect that to the radiator.

ahh, that’s gonna be fun. I have the other half of the current valve; old valve is long gone. Radiator is built in to a housing I made a few years back. Didn’t think to allow for a removable front to be able to later remove the radiator for maintenance. Guess I found myself in a jam

if the new valve is a different size than the old valve you may also need to remove the bushing from the radiator and replace it with the appropriate size. Another option would be to reduce the pipe at the valve and use a valve that matches the bushing.
