Adding Refrigerant to new ACIQ Inverter Condenser

I need to add refrigerant to a new system as we had to add an extra 20' of lineset. Pulled a vacuum, checked for leaks, released the charge. According to the manual we have to add 14 oz of 454b. my question is..does the system have to be operating in cooling mode or can we add refrigerant with the system off?

If the pressure in the jug is greater than the static pressure of the system, then sure you can do it while its off. But the pressure won't be higher, at least not for long. So, no, run the system in cool mode and charge with liquid of course.
On jobs with extended line sets, its easier to add the required refrigerant first, then open the service valves. And yes, the system is off while doing it this way.

They make heating blankets that Velcros around juggies, it'll generally push juice into a system. Also, a recovery machine will move juice from a jug into a system just as easily as the reverse, too.
The normal way is to break the lineset vacuum with the adder charge though, & of course you need the system running to dial in the charge.
At this point, I wouldn't spend too much time on it right now, since you're still going to have to come back once it's powered. Make a note somewhere so you don't forget!
