Tomorrow is Install Day!

With the help of a few friends the SS liner will be installed tomorrow morning.

I shut down my coal stoker boiler as my coal supply was ended and removed the old flue pipe. Then vacuumed the remaining fly ash and cleaned the thimble.

Just for fun I stuck a mirror inside and got a view of a clear shot to the sky!

While we are up on the roof I will make a template up that will serve as a guide for a SS fluecap for all 3 flues. That will be a winter project !

Next will be to "unpipe" the old boiler and start the new install.

remember to take care of the install people.

    plenty of water
A cold one after they’re done is always appreciated

Well what I thought was going to be an easy install had a few bumps! A 5.5" liner would normally fit in a 8x13 flue except for all the protruding mortar! Up down up down twist it on way then another and 35 feet later we are 6" from the final location and it's jammed! Made short work of it with a big hammer and a bar ! The snout or horizontal part is in place and I mixed up a batch of mortar.

    Job done!

when i did it i ended up getting an oval tee and "field ovalizing" the liner. I drilled and secured the bottom cap with machine bolts and nuts and attached a piece of hanger iron to the tee and tied a rope to that.

An ovalised tee have been great.

We have had to have a mason in during the install, he opened up a hole in the middle of chimney so we could coax the liner through the offset, then rebricked when we finished. Nice to have a Mason on your phone list.

Had to make another quick climb up to install the correct rain cap as they sent the wrong diameter one.

All the ladders are put away. Job done!

Yesterday I removed our coal boiler and started the clean up of the area. Now I will get the new Weil-McClain into position and see how I want to position it and the indirect hot water tank.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?
