Steam Heat - Music to my ears

For most members here this is old news but for some of us younger whippersnappers we may not have been aware of these. At the inevitable moment in any conversation with friends these days where steam heat comes up one of my friends last night (one that has more of a musical artsy background than myself) immediately mentioned "Steam Heat" from the 1954 Broadway musical Pajama Game and sent me a link. Other than there pressure needing a little reduction I found it quite entertaining.

(I did do a search and noticed that credit is due to Patrick McGrath in Dec 2009 for introducing this to the forum, 5 yrs before my time here)

The 1954 Broadway and the 1957 musical version links below: Enjoy!

Local 343 on the banner at the back of the stage. I looked them up. They're in California.

The two women, when they got up at the beginning? Has anyone been at a union meeting when only two people got up to yell? 😉🤔

Carol Haney. Was already sick and hospitalized during the subsequent 1957 film version and later died of cancer in 1963. Aficionados mention her dancing was already showing the strain in '57 vs the original '54 live Broadway version.

I think you are referring to the dancer in the middle, hoofin it. I meant the Blonde in the audience that jumped up and shouted..Mad Dog

Oh, I don't know, but I don't think she shouted Mad Dog:)

  • Speaking of Jayne Mansfield, I'm sure everyone knows the story about the Mansfield Bar on trailers.

didn't that come in like 30 years after that accident?

  • The accident happened in 1967; the law mandated in 1968; further refined and fully implemented in 1998.

If I'm not mistaken, because there wasn't a bar there, she may have been decapitated and died instantly. Very sad. Her very young daughter survived the crash. That daughter is Mariska Hargitay. She plays a detective on the TV show Law and Order. Lt. or a Capt. now. Olivia Benson. I haven't seen the show for a while. I wonder how many lives have been saved since the "Mansfield bar" has been installed.
