Mitsubishi Mini Split - Vane stops swinging issue

Hi, I am new to this forum.

I got a Mitsubishi Heat Pump (MXZ-5C42NAHZ-U1) installed in 2022 with three indoor units (one MSZ-GL18NA-U1 and two MSZ-GL06NA-U1). One of the smaller units is in my office and I noticed today that while the vane is set to 'swing', it was not swinging. I pressed the 'vane' button a few times until it showed 'swing' again and it restarted and then I stopped paying attention until sometime later when it was in position 1 again and not swinging.

It does say in the manual: That it is normal that the swing operation of the horizontal vane is suspended for a while and then restarts but how long is a while? Mine seems to not restart.

Then I checked the large unit and the other small unit and noticed that I cannot change the vane position at all with the remote control (it remains in position 1 for both units).. When I turn on the units, the vane opens all the way and then goes to position 1 and when I turn it off, it closes properly. I never paid attention to the 'swing' mode tbh.

I called the installer and they want $225 for a diagnostics appointment, and then they said my system was installed with a 1-year labor warranty, 12-year parts warranty, and 12-year compressor warranty.  Would something like this be covered by the warranty?

Or is it even an electric problem and I need an electrician? The installer had paid for the electrician as well as I needed an upgrade there prior to installation.

Really appreciate your input.

What you have is a multi split with oversized head in the room. These tend to overshoot on room temperature control at which point the fan shuts off and the vane goes into closed position. This is normal operation.

You generally can get better operation out of this setup by installing a wired/wireless thermostat so it senses room temperature instead of air temperature at the unit.

Some installer now install the thermostat by default as it solves a lot of comfort issues.

the fan does not shut off. Unless you switch the remote control to “off”, or, snip the dinky jumper at the control board

The problem you described seems relatively minor

GL wall units, your system is over several years old.The contractor apparently has concluded his labor warranty. If the wall unit needs some PC board or the like, the part would be covered under the 12 year Mitsubishi warranty, the labor would not- based on your general wording.

I would suggest using your warranty to have the installer check it out—this is exactly the kind of issue that should be covered under the 12-year parts warranty. It's not likely to be an electrician issue, as the problem seems specific to the A/C unit itself. Definitely don’t pay the diagnostics fee if you’re still under warranty

manufacturers warranty do not cover labor unless they specifically say they do. I'm not sure how you think any installer would stay in business if they had to provide free service for over a decade on every unit they installed, they would need to charge 5 or more times the install cost I imagine
