New boiler install...Christmas came early.
How'd I do? Certainly feels like an upgrade over the 2-3x oversized Penco. Ended up with the EG40. It's been running for over an hour with no pressure in sight, so I'm looking forward to that. Oddly it overheated our master bedroom which was typically a cooler room by design with a size 4 vent. I'm going to give it a couple cycles to settle in and looking forward to see how the run cycles compare this weekend as we approach single digits. NE Steamworks backup their reputation. Thanks for everyone's advice!

Very well done. That is a beautiful install.
Like 6 other folks on the forum, I will not be surprised if you make NO PRESSURE with the huge risers and a terrific drop header. An unexplainable phenomenon…………..no pressure if you do a drop header!!
My take:
The resulting exceedingly dry steam results in the radiators having MORE capability than the calculated EDR.
PROVEN at least seven times with NO EXPLANATION!!

I only know what crappy steam boiler piping looks like, because that's what usually gets posted here by owners with problems.
But I know just enough to know that is a work of art!

Probably due to better steam flow.
Pop a Vent Rite on to tame that bedroom rad.

I really like it. I just think you need to get the insulation back on that near boiler piping. Here is an idea to make it really festive. On Festivus for the rest of us

Beautiful install! NE Steamworks services my boiler and they are an outstanding crew! When it comes time for my boiler and its janky piping to be replaced, if I can't gather the courage to do it myself they are the only ones I will let do it!

Same, it’s great. It’s going to be super cold Monday, so looking forward to seeing how it compares with runtimes.

I’m a bit surprised how long it takes to get to the end of main vents. The risers off the boiler are scorching within a minute or two, but takes almost 7+ minutes to get steam out of the drop header and up in to the old piping. Then almost 15 minutes to get to the end of the main with 2x #2 air eliminators on a semi cold start. Boiler is half the size though.

Yes, that makes no sense. If the piping is "warm…………..say 130F"………it takes about 2.5 minutes to reach the end of a 2.5" main………….about 60'…………with a 260K boiler, IF you have decent venting (TWO Gordon #2) in the extension of the main (aka dry return).

It was 3 hours since the last cycle so I guess technically a cold start.
Sat there with a timer and it took 7 minutes for the 90 where it ties in to old mains to get hot hot.
Going to be 9F on Monday so should have some better run cycle times.

Significantly smaller boiler and a lot more metal near the boiler all radiating nicely. Insulate the near boiler piping and you'll see major improvement. 👍

2 things someone else mentioned about this install:
The top of the wye for the Hartford loop sits at 3” below the waterline. Manual says 2”.Manual also says EG-40 should go 2” riser to 2.5” header, this was installed as 2” to 2”.
I don’t want any warranty concerns. Are those recommendations, or requirements? Should I address with installer?

What’s the height of the Hartford loop, it looks very low, obviously hard to tell from the pictures but it seems well below the water line
Also why the valves on the header, not a critique or anything I’ve just never seen that before

Not to critique things but they set the boiler where they did to line up the flue. I think I would have turned the boiler 90 degrees to the left so the controls would not be up against the water heater.

I didn’t realize how much piping would be coming off the right side, we are planning to wall off the room at some point, so I had them move it over just a little bit. In hindsight probably would have had them done it differently.

Not a deal breaker. Just wondered why with all the room.
If you wall it off make sure to allow for combustion air for the boiler somehow.
