concentric vents

I have a gas furnace and a on demand tank less water heater both vented with concentric vents How far can the concentric be apart or how close one is lower on the roofline then the other but in line

    Check the installation manual for both appliances as it can vary. However, one should not be installed below the other one as that can cause exhaust gases to be drawn into the upper one.

    says 4 inches to 24 inches between i see your point about one lower then the other so should i install across same elevation as the other would be my thought
