VXT-24 Auto Water Feeder- ERR display

One-pipe steam: Auto feeder has been working well for more than 6 years. Just noticed Auto feeder displaying "ERR" immediately when I turn on the system via light switch shut off.

1) Only thing I found on line was to check and make sure the FEED and DELAY is selected - yes this is selected. I tried resetting the selection and trying other options - not change in display.

2) Checked for any clogs in the wye strainer - none

3) LWCO calls for water and valve opens. Once satisfied, it left the valve open longer than normal. The valve makes a loud creaking noise when closing which was not normal.

4) All internal feeder wires are secure.

5) Reset button doesn't do anything.

6) The only change from last season to this season is I added antlers/main venting to make the system more efficient but I don't see how this would affect the hot water feeder. I also replaced some radiator stem valves which had small leaks - maybe the decrease in calls for water is causing sediment to get caught and dry up in the feeder valve? is this far fetched?

My next option was to open up the valve itself and check for any debris but wanted to check here first before I declare myself SOL and buy another feeder.

I don't think the autofeeder could be detecting debris in the valve.

But you're not SOL. You're better off without an auto-feeder. Manual replenishment lets you see exactly how much water you are adding so you can tell if there is any change in usage rate due to leaks.

Ya i've seen lots of disagreements on auto-feeders - I have it because the boiler is in a rental, so as long as heat is produced, I'm happy. I've made lots of updates to the system myself so not too worried about future issues.

Do you think the valve is going bad - hence the creaking? What else could the ERR be?

I don't know about the creaking… @Gordo might know. He works on these things more than anyone else I know

If ERR appears in the digital counter, this indicates that more than one or no delay or feed button has been select- ed. See Step 4 and Step 5 for DELAY and FEED setting instructions.
