Replacement recommendations for LP boiler
We currently have a Weil McLain CGi-5 LP boiler for our baseboard heat and DHW/superstore.
It was installed in our new built home in Jan. 2000 and has provided steady uninterrupted service since then, up until now. The problem has been diagnosed as the pressure switch. Pretty minor repair. The service person (JSP) that diagnosed the problem started talking about how the boiler is reaching its useful service life and of course recommended replacement. I guess it’s not a bad idea. So my questions are….1. Any thoughts or experiences on the service life of this unit? 2. Any recommendations for a standard, non high efficiency boiler (keeping the same DHW system). There is another post I did last year but I didn’t ask for boiler recommendations. Thanks for responding.

It appears to be piped properly, so if it's been decently maintained and water temp has remained 140+ throughout, I wouldn't even consider replacing it. I've got the predecessor to it (an HE-5) from 1988 in an apartment building I own that's never been maintained nor does it run year-round, and it's still kicking. Yours should easily go another decade with proper maintenance- maybe 2 or 3 decades.

Are you located in the Hudson Valley area? I'm familiar with a company in my area that has those initials. They have the reputation for being very pushy salesman. I wouldn't worry about that boiler. Looks good to me.

Do I see daylight at the flue breach?
All is fine now after the pressure switch replacement? If so, let it ride.
What are the 2 loops that are shut off?
Combustion tests on those are taken outside at the exhaust termination.

Yes, Hurley. And…yes.

Yes, that is daylight. The mortar had crumbled. This is an old picture. I haven’t received the part yet. Should have it today. The 2 loops are shut off because the pic was taken in the summer. One is on because of testing.
