1 1/2" "Hubbed" nipple...Anyone ever use one of these? Proper name? Mad Dog 🐕

    Is it a reducing nipple also?

    Swage nipple male X female is what I would call. I'm not sure there is such a thing?

    It looks like it was welded in the field and not an off-the-shelf fitting. It was probably made late on a Friday afternoon or on a weekend call.

    Caulk to thread. See them all the time. 2 inch or smaller. Never with gas though. Eek!

    That upside down hub probably means something broke.

    Trying to squeeze the best out of a Weil-McLain JB-5 running a 1912 1 pipe system.

    What is a hubbed nipple? Are you looking at a male x female nipple or a nipple with the hex in the middle?

    It's odd...that's why I stopped & took a picture. It is 1 1/2" Galvanized malleable fitting. It could be some proprietary gas utility nipple.....Mad Dog 🐕

    Do a search for "Lozome nipple bushings" . That may what you saw.

    Looks like a caulk to thread adapter. We see them on galvanized vents and drains in 1-1/2 and 2 - inch house drains from the 1930s. The ones I see are usually iron though.

    The Lozone Nipple Bushing is what we call an 'extension coupling." This has a female threaded hub attached to a 8" nipple. All one piece. Mad Dog 🐕

    In the old days the gas in the street could be anything. CI & wood pipe included.

    how exactly do you pour that? the runner isn't going to make the lead run uphill.

    A upside down, vertical lead joint.

    It need a really broken in, old joint runner. Clip it really tight. Build a funnel out Flue pipe or whatever., and stuff any crevices with oakum. Make sure the top of the funnel is higher than the top of the hub and pour it like any other lead joint.

    The molten lead, like water, will seek it's own level. Mad Dog 🐕
