Boiler feed pump overfilling

Looks like this has been going on for a couple years. Got called because of water on boiler room floor. The receiver is full, but the PRV is still feeding. Float problem?

    Yes, it is on the RH end of the tank. There is a float inside like a toilet tank float. See what the water pressure is on the supply side of the float. I think 30 psi is max.

    If the boiler pump is constantly cycling (like every 30 seconds) then you have a bad check valve between the boiler and the pump. If it doesn't get fixed you will kill the boiler.

    What is make up water supply pressure? Generally, mechanical float valves are not recommended when supply pressure exceeds 50 PSI.

    What is regulated supply pressure downstream of PRV?

    A better make up water arrangement is a float switch and solenoid valve.

    Typically this is the preferred arrangement.

    The PRV is 25-75 range. Someone wrote set to 20 PSI. First laid eyes on this yesterday. Thinking how could I add solenoid valve.

    Take the original float out and install one with a switch. Wire the switch to the solenoid. Move the MU water to a different tapping. Put a tee in the vent line to add the water if you have to

    Looks like a Shipco Tank? Call the local Shipco rep and they can hook you up
