    Question about threading pipe with Ridgid 65-RA

    I am threading some pipe with a Ridgid 65-RA and the threads appear to be NPS (they do not taper) like NPT.

    I bought/installed a new set of dies (NPT), and threaded pipe. These threads are still not NPT (and the threaded pipe does not fit well into NPT fittings).

    I am positive that I installed the dies correctly, and it does make clean threads, but any thoughts on what the problem may be? I would think NPT dies would make NPT threads, but what else may be going on?

      Did you set in the new dies in series ? Check the markings.....

      I'm not familiar with a 65-RA?

      The 65R doesn't use the dies to create taper. It's a receding threader so as you thread it slowly retracts the dies away causing the taper.

      The only thought I have is did you set it for normal threads or accidently set it for oversized?

      If it was originally a BSPT threader, it can't use NPT dies.



      If BSPT dies require a BSPT threader, you can extrapolate that NPT dies require NPT threader.

      I am going to try one more time with my NPT dies and use exactly the standard depth setting. I did go beyond the standard setting thinking that it would create more threads on the pipe, not deeper ones.

      The difference between the letters at the end is only how it clamps/holds the pipe. Rest is the same
