One Hot Radiator!

Hey all,

Just wondering if there's a way of adjusting the temp on ONE radiator in the house. The second-floor bedroom on the boiler side of the house gets way too hot compared to all the other radiators.

We have a (gas) one-pipe steam system. Old school cast iron radiators with shutoff valves on the floor and Hoffman vents.

Thanks!

You can put a smaller-capacity vent on that radiator.
You can put a blanket on the radiator, or part of it, to reduce how much it can...radiate.
You can often rotate the vent upside down to completely disable the radiator.

Don't try to turn it off with the shutoff valve, that rarely works well.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

What blanket material would you recommend?

Anything, it won't burn. Maybe a comforter or an old wool one

Try a Vent-Rite #1 adjustable vent on that radiator. It's very easy to use it to regulate the rate at which air leaves the radiator. The slower the venting, the less the rad will heat.

    Thanks!

I'm using this at the lowest setting and seems to be calming it down. Will need the blanket too though.
