    I have a setup as you show in the second drawing. I would like to add a pilot light to the switch that only has 2 wires in the box. Can this be done? Thank you

    Not correctly as you have no neutral at that location.

    There is however a single pole switch that lights up when off.

    Would show up in a stairwell.
