Steam Main Vent Configuration Question

I was looking at my main vent configuration which is an antler (linear) set up. But then an alternative setup occurred to me and I thought i would ask the pros about it, so here goes.

If space between floor joists allows (and in mine it does), could i replace the "T" on which each vent sits with a cross fitting and attach the Gorton #2 vents across from each other using a short nipple and an elbow on each side? From that cross, a 3 inch nipple would connect to the next cross with the same setup for the vents. And of course a plug at the end. It seems to me a configuration like this would considerably shorten an "antler" set up and allow each vent to be removed individually if replacement is needed.

Is there any particular reason a setup like this would not work?
