Can a thermostatic valve be added with the current valve and piping

    Don't see those very often... that is an ingenious arrangement which allows one to run hot water radiators with only one end coupled.

    I don't see any good reason why you couldn't cut a thermostatic valve into one of the pipes. What you can't do is replace the existing valve and connections.

    There is a Danfoss valve with a a lance and I think another one from another manufacture that could replace that vale. The thing is the Honewell Unique valve is also a bypass so if you stop flow to that valve, anything else in series will also not heat. If it is separately connected to the mains then you can install a TRV before the unique valve(or in place of), otherwise you need a bypass.
