    We've had issues with similar pumps when used as boiler feed pumps.   Any grit (rust, etc) will wreak havoc.

    Is there a real fine strainer on the inlet side of the pumps?

    For simple sump lift pumps, (not really different than your steam Pedestal pumps), a 3/16 hole drilled in the discharge line just above the water line is recommended to avoid this. FWIW
