Radiant floor

Customer called, no heat in radiant floor, there are screens on the mixing valve that are cloggged, when taking the mixing valve off to clean it the hot side fell apart. I said I have to get a mixing valve but we can just use the old one and it will run at higher temp. My question is will sending 180 degree water to a radiant floor ruin the flooor in anyway or will it just shut off quicker ?

How does a valve "fall apart"?

Depends on the floor, most should not see supply higher than 120, some can call for supply of 140. 180 going to a radiant slab is generally very very bad, I would never even consider it

    More info is needed.

Is it on a cast iron boiler or a mod/con? Are there other zones that require 180* SWT?

In no way would I send that high a temp to a radiant floor.

Wood floor-a killer. Carpet not so bad. Concrete slab-not good. Under floor-not so bad.

Concrete slab?  The old copper tube systems ran 180f!  Hard on certain floor covering🤓

Back down the boiler temperature until the fix.

The plastics inside and spring came out. It looked like a small ball in the center I cant find , I’ll fix it this Friday.
There’s 2 other zones set at 180 degrees.
Let me ask in a different way, at 180 or 160 isn’t the water going to just heat up the area and turn off when the ( in the case) the floor sensor is satisfied.
Like I said only for a week, but if I had to hold it off till next week I don’t see a problem except for short cycling

It will work fine without the checks, those are usually only used on DHW recirc. If it is a ASSE 1070 valve it will have checks included to pass listing.

What type of emitters are the other zones?

You shouldn’t need water that hot in milder weather.

Cut the SWT down to 140* for now.

Laminate floor wouldnt like that high either, it will curl up the edges apparently.
We run 100-120 max into our slab due to some laminate in the bedrooms.
