Gorton #2 vs multiple #1s

Options
On my single pipe system I have two gorton #1s on the dry return that work fine but are not enough. I decided to upgrade to single #2, however it stopped working after a day after installation (stuck closed). I took it off and found that it's full of water and once the water is removed - i can blow through it again.
Are there any tricks that are required for #2? (i.e. don't reduce to 1/2 near the vent, etc)

Not really -- but I'd be very interested to find out how water got into it. There really shouldn't be much water in a one pipe steam main extension ("dry return").

after very cold night i noticed surging in sight glass... that explains everything, i need to skim again (fourth time).
It looks like big vents are more sensible to bad steam quality

Was anything else done with the system?

only new gorton #2, union, two nipples and 3/4 to 1/2 reducer installed on the dry return instead manifold with two #1s. Could that bring enough oil for surging?
