If you can work a steam-heating system back into the shape it was in when new (that being fast, quiet and efficient), your customers will never go anywhere else. And they will tell everyone they know that you are the best around.

    I always love reading these entries. I learn so much . . . engineering at the turn of the century was already so developed . . . but I guess even the Romans had steam baths.

    Because the other half is being thrown up in to the mains faster than it can return...

    I've personally learned alot from Dan Holohan over the years and moving recently from the northeast to NC,SC area have found this exact issue all over with steam heat being ran at 8 psi & up without even the technicians understanding the issues. I try to teach what ive learned and the use of a left handed screw driver.

    I worked in Greensboro NC, and I was surprised to find a lot of one pipe steam in the older homes. Some homeowners ripped out the piping and the radiators, but most kept them. The guys I worked with at the time had no clue what steam heat was- let alone a boiler.
