Ok have a bit of a problem. My hot water tank won’t stay running. It will stay running though if I keep the igniter box cracked open for some reason. When it was running I was checking to see if the ignitor was sparking the electrodes and it was. I found when I keep this cracked open a little bit(maybe a quarter of a inch) the flame will stay. Once I close it the igniter box the flame will go out and it will trip the reset button.

Sounds like a draught problem -- but unless you really know what you are doing with it, may I suggest that you find a technician who is familiar with the burner and the instruments used to adjust it and let him or her find and fix the problem? There are a number of possible causes.Br. Jamie, osb

I agree with @Jamie Hall the flame is not getting combustion air. Air inlet blocked or dirty, flue problem etc0
