Retrofit Oil to Gas or new boiler

Hi - I have a Weill McClain oil boiler that I would like to convert to gas.  Boiler was installed in 2002.

two options: Carlin or Beckett gun conversion, or replace entirely.  Is the gun efficiency lower than a replacement? In interested in economic merits.

also, this boiler is an indirect water heater.  So I'm breaking that bond as well.

You will have to get some quotes and compare. Many have used a Carlin gas burner with success in that boiler. Beckett also make good burners but not sure about using one in that boiler.

The question is investing in a gas conversion in that boiler worth it?

At almost 20 years old some will say yes, some will say no, it's time to change the boiler. The indirect has no bearing on your choice.

There is no right or wrong answer.

If you convert or change the boiler you need the gas pipe brought to the boiler and maybe a chimney liner installed for either option so there is that.

So your looking at the cost to install a burner, wire it and start it up.

If the boiler is in good shape, is heating well and not over sized I would put a new gas burner in it

I'd use a Carlin EZ-Gas burner. You'll need to replace the draft regulator with a gas-type one, and add a blocked-flue switch as well.

That's not an indirect, it's an aquabooster.

Is your meter capable of handling the increase volume?
