I have an oil burner with a R8184G Honeywell relay. I have replaced this relay about 4 times over the years and at about $$$ a pop it gets quite expensive. There are not too many components to the unit and since the same thing happens to every unit there must be one thing on the circuit board that goes bad and should be able to be replaced. The symptoms are( The burner starts up, it runs for about 5 munits then shuts down. I hit the reset button. It starts up and does the same thing again ) I replace the unit and it runs fine. Does anyone know how I can repair these units?

First of all you should start your own thread. Throw it in the trash and use a modern primary control. Your problem is not with the control but elsewhere.
Heat (back pressure/drafting) due to a dirty burner/heat exchanger/clogged venting, improper draft, bad/no ground, or failing neutral is more likely your problem.

I'm gonna paraphrase something someone else here says,
"there is something else there, that probably is far less expensive, that needs checking, cleaning, or replacing,"
you need to get someone out to properly diagnose your issue,
stop pushing the reset button, and tell your tech how many times you have,

Thanks for the information .If you know the name or the part number for the replacement controller I would appreciate it. Thanks again for your help.

That depends on what equipment the burner is used on. Where are you located?

As @neilc said, you're looking in the wrong place. Or, as someone else said, one of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Bluntly, you are assuming that every circuit board you have tried has exactly the same component failure. I'm not going to say that this sort of thing never happens -- but it's sufficiently rare that perhaps it would be wise to attempt to determine what -- external to the board -- is related to that component and is overstressing it, causing it to fail.

Without knowing the specific component on the board which is failing, or what it is supposed to do, or what it is hooked up to, it would be impossible for me to say where to start looking -- but you have it to hand, so you don't have that handicap.

Honeywell and Carlin both make primary controls that can be used on any oil burner. I'm with Steve, I don't like the R8184G. But it's very unusual to have to replace one that frequently,  you have another problem that may be causing you to think that the control has failed.  As noted by others, there are many variables that need to be considered.  I would consider calling a professional who is familiar with oil burning systems.  A good one will do much more than change parts, he will make sure that the system is safe,  reliable and as efficient as possible.
