Clicking sound from Thermostat

Options
My daughter 2 nd home has a Top performer water heater with TPI thermostat. When she is away, the power to the water is turned off and the green light blinks . Now when the green light blinks, the thermostat also makes a clicking sound which it did not previously make. I am am concerned about the clicking sound. The system is about 13 years old

The clicking sound is most likely a relay -- and it is most likely trying to fire up the heating system. (I presume that when you say "water heater" you are referring to the heating system, not the domestic hot water?). Why you hear it now and didn't before I couldn't say.

There is a relay/circuit board in there. Its probably on it's way out. I just replaced one last week. The client opted for simple, safe, and reliable. I installed a Honeywell L4006A in its place.
