Removing unused steam radiators

Hey there,

I moved into a condo that has 7 steam radiators of various sizes. Three of them were connected when we moved in. Our first winter was easily managed with just two of them being on (live on the third floor so heat base line is already high).

This leaves me thinking:

Can I get rid of the unused radiators?
Would that decision come back to bite me in the **** if I sold the home?

    Simple answer -- yes, and quite possibly. If they aren't horribly in the way, the best solution if you don't need them working (much) is to close the vent, if they are one pipe steam and vented, or the inlet valve, if they are two pipe steam.

    The folks maintaining the boiler aren't going to be all that happy, since steam systems are sized so that the boiler matches the radiation, but I'd be willing to be that in a condo nobody will notice.

    Without knowing where you are, last winter was mild in my location, you might want to go through a cold winter first before deciding to permanently remove any radiators.
