Radiator steam traps

Looking for more info about these traps as I was unable to find any data in the books. The boiler we installed 18 years ago rusted out prematurely and as I recall this boiler always cycled on room thermostat and never reached 1.5 psi cutout....go figure LOL

    Weighted check. The hole is for air and a bit of steam. The weight of the trapped condensate opens the check. The condensate level in the radiator drops. The weighted check cycles closed again.

    It looks like someone drilled and tapped the end cap. The rococo border gives it away.

    No, that's actually an eccentric bushing. They actually did make bushings with fancy borders back then, both standard and eccentric. We might have a couple laying around at the shop.

    If we have to put something like that together now, we'll use a double-tapped oil tank bushing and plug the unused hole.

    Wow. I don't know what's more amazing: that they made bushings like that or that the installer would take the trouble to use a bushing that matched the style of the radiator.
