Steam porn from our 1856 home.

As promised. There is another one in the house (none are operative) but this one is pretty close to pristine IMO. Found some loose ones in the carriage barn, one is pretty dang big!

They are dangerous, and need to be removed immediately.
Give me your address and I’ll come take them away. ;)

For those who haven't, you can read about these radiators, and the man who invented them, in the first chapter of either edition of @DanHolohan 's seminal book, "The Lost Art of Steam Heating".

If this and its twin (same color scheme but with surface rust) were repainted, then it was long long ago. They are both located on the unused and , until recently, uninsulated third floor. Both appear to be mounted in their original location. Previous owner of 40 years didn't think much of them when I stipulated that they remain in the house. The one in the pic looks like old patina to me buy I have no point of reference.

What seems odd is that this radiator brought safe steam heat to home owners and must have been installed in quite a few homes but they seem rare as hens teeth and little info shows up in goooogly searches. I figured there would a ready market buying and selling them (like other common radiators) but they are like ghosts.

Wow, those are really cool to see still out there. What is the house being heated by since these mattress radiators are not working?

A variety of radiators from fat lowboy (under windows) to stacked rectangular sections hung on a wall. The mattress is the most interesting, though. Why are there so few of these still around?

It was not a success in the market. The Reed and the Nason radiators killed it.
