Steam Boiler Rotting Away

Hello I have a steam boiler that was installed in 1998. While servicing it today I noticed the back wall of the block appears to be disintegrating. (SEE PICTURES). It is a natural gas Peerless steam boiler. I don’t see any type of unusual flame shape hitting that area back there. Any thoughts on what may have caused this?

    Looks like it's leaking between at least 2 sections.

    Those are good boilers And it’s only 20 years old.

    Dry fired? Or really bad water quality and lots of makeup water.

    That’s been happening for a while. You’ll have to start thinking about replacement, unfortunately.
