While in Germany, I saw a schmutzfänger. It sure looked like a wye strainer.

Gosh, I love saying that word. .

Schmutz is the yiddish word for "dirt". "Fanger" is a trap or trapper.

I was wondering where the name Hush Puppies came from (as I am eating them right now!). Looked it up and found they were used to keep dogs quiet, nice!

I was also pleased to find out the first recorded use of hush puppies was in 1899, the same year the Carbon Club standardized the design pressure of steam and temperature of water.

Speaking of odd names, there's no such thing as a hot water boiler. Just saying.

As someone who has learned entirely through reading, is Taco pronounced like the mexican food or some other way?

Yes, it's pronounced "Tay-co". It stands for the Thermal Appliance Company (T.A.CO.).

Tacos are for eating, but Taco is for heating. ;)

Trying to say something spelled Taco is pronounced Tayco sounds awfully similar to claiming your name spelled Bucket is pronounced Bouquet. ;)

You do not generally use punctuation within a word or name.

What's funny (to me) about taco-Taco, is when you first type it into your google search, you always get taco (or taco bell). But after you visit Taco's website, you usually get that first as you type. Google (shaking fist)!

    This is true...

.....But from a marketing standpoint, Taco must direct a lot of internet traffic to taco bell! They don't even show up on the first five google pages..

    To be fair,
Who do you think is getting more searches, Taco or Tacobell? I'm betting more people search for Tacobell in a day than do for the pump company in a week or four.

Nothing against them, it's just fast food is far more popular than a good pump.

Hmmm, Perhaps we should call it Tayco Bell and see if Taco moves up in the search results. :p

So are we onto odd pronunciations now?

Niece is a school teacher, first day of school calling out student names. She sees one and can't bring herself to say it, finally figures out the name is pronounced Ash-O-Lay, but it's spelled as the hole in your hind quarters.

I still can't figure out why we have so many fiction writers when the real world is so much more interesting.
