If there are no contractors that specialize in steam heating, try to find a plumber who doesn't mind working with threaded iron pipe and who is willing to take instruction and I'm sure the pro's here can help him help you. It's really not rocket science, just takes someone who is willing to learn and who is not afraid of sometimes hard work.

For some reason that area seems to be kind of a black hole for good contractors for steam heat. However, as @Phil53 said, it isn't rocket science. There really are two parts to steam maintenance -- one is making sure the boiler is cleaned and properly adjusted. A good technician, with the proper equipment (test meters and knows how to use them) can do that -- although to be cleaned properly the boiler does need to have the cleanout covers on the fire side removed. Working on the steam side -- the controls and things like proper piping and making sure traps work -- is a little more specialized, but again -- if you get a good tech. person, we can and will help a lot if he or she is willing to learn and ask questions.
