Dan, I've always enjoyed your stories, the way it feels like you are talking to the reader.
I always look forward to Thursdays to see where we are going this week.
This was a great trip! It felt like I was right there exploring that great old building.
Makes me want to go and see it for myself. And all the work put in to make it the way it should be, wow. Glad they got you involved and didn't just make it "modern".
    Can't wait for next week.

Thanks, John. I appreciate that, and the kind words about the newsletter. That's 100% Erin, though. I haven't written that one since I retired in 2016. She's better at it than I ever was.

    Hug your kids.

Lovely article -- thank you Dan! Especially for someone like me, who devotes their time to restoring and maintaining the old, to be enjoyed by the present and the future.

But those last four paragraphs sadden me... what is it @Steamhead always says?

Dan, thanks for this fascinating history lesson. Frankly, I think it deserves wider recognition. Have you ever sent this to the New York Times Magazine? I do believe it is the type of story they might jump on. All the best...

Thanks The Times has written about GSMT many times in the past. This is one of my favorites: https://www.nytimes.com/1978/12/17/archives/places-at-no-20-the-dowager-of-44th-st.html?searchResultPosition=12

There really is no other place quite like this one. I't a joy to have Wetstock happen there. Ya snooze, ya lose.

Excellent story. Thank you for sharing.
To continue to strive for a more efficient and sustainable society is a noble cause. It is hoped however that policy makers either learn enough on their own, or rely on the intelligence those who do, before mischaracterizing entire types of systems in the quest for appearing progressive. Stories like this need to happen, and be brought to light more often!
