Connecting water supply to steam boiler

Hello I have read a ton here but this is my first post. I am replacing my old galvanized piping in the house with pex and I am wanting to attach the pex piping with a sharkbite fitting near the boiler to provide the supply for adding water to the boiler. The current set up has the old galvanized (which I am replacing) going into a 1/2 inch copper supply going into a copper wet return. The 1/2 inch copper supply enters the wet return about two feet from the boiler and i would put the sharkbite 2 or more feet up the 1/2" supply line from that point. I guess I am asking if this would okay to do. Yes, it is not ideal I am aware of that.
