Need help identifying a part

Hello, I work for a plumbing contractor in New Jersey. I have a customer who is looking to replace an oil fired steam boiler.I’m trying to figure out what this is does anyone know. I will attach a few more pictures

    Looks like some sort of device designed to separate the water from the steam. Professor Dan mentions such a device in the Lost Art. Don't know if it's the same device or not. Can you make out the writing on the side ?

    @STEAM DOCTOR , you nailed it.

    You should not need this with the new boiler, assuming it's piped correctly.

    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

    Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

    It provides a "wide place in the road" that slows the steam velocity, allowing any water coming up with the steam to drop back into the boiler thru the small pipe coming out the bottom.

    The proper way to do this is with a good header.

    Check out unionsteam.com. They sell something called a steam separator

    I am sure that is not the original boiler. Should give some credit to the fellow that installed that boiler and reused it. Many would have scrapped it.

    Thank you for the help. If I get the job I’m sure it will be something we keep around as none of us knew what is was.
