Warren Webster Traps Seat Nut Size?

A quick question: Does anyone know the size socket required to remove the seat from a W-W 512, 522, 533, etc.? Unfortunately, I don't have the tool W-W made for this, and I don't had access to a trap I can check, but wanted to have the right socket before going to the job. And by the way, I do have the wrench they made to remove the cap, so if anyone has a spare of the little socket gadget they made to fit in the wrench's square hole to remove seats, I'd be pleased to purchase it from you! -H

    I don't know 100% but I think it's 3/4" or very close to that size. Most trap seats are 3/4" hex

    @Harry: I pulled a WW 512 HB from our "petting zoo" of steam parts and I am getting a measurement of the seat (in our example) at 1" even.

    Often, there ain't much clearance between the seat flats and the bottom of that trap, so a special thin-walled socket might be needed. Usually, its pretty crusty down there, too. Full of vitamins! Sometimes, I've even ground the bevel off the bottom of the socket to enable a better grip on the relatively thin seat.

    These deep traps are an overall challenge to deal with.

    You may consider a full replacement of the trap, especially if it is a cross-over trap and you have to work overhead by braille.

    Thanks. Yes, I assumed it might take some grinding of a socket, since I had that same experience of it being pretty tight (and cruddy) for a normal one. That's why I was wishing I had the W-W socket that goes with the cap wrench. Oh, well. . .
